The 14th Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles, USA the world capital for media and entertainment.
This was the first time in 16 years that the games were held in America.
The Special Olympics World Games were hosted for nine days from Saturday 25 July until Sunday 2 August and featured 25 Olympic-style sports of which #TEAMSOGB took part in 19:
Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Bocce, Bowling, Cycling, Equestrian, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Judo, Kayaking, Open Water Swimming, Powerlifting, Table Tennis and Tennis.
These Games showcased the unlimited potential of people with intellectual disabilities – the largest disability population in the world.
More than 7,000 athletes from 170 countries competed at the Games and enjoy nine days full of joy and friendship. The games had 500,000 spectators and around 30,000 volunteers at the event.
Special Olympics around the world has one thing in common – a passionate commitment to promoting respect, acceptance, inclusion, accomplishment and human dignity for people with intellectual disabilities through sports and forming a new global vision of acceptance.
