GB National Summer Games
Between 7-11 August 2017, our 10th National Summer Games will take place in the City of Sheffield across a number of sporting venues. 2,600 athletes with intellectual disabilities of all ages/abilities will come together from across the country.
They will be supported over 4 days of competition by 700 coaches, 900 volunteers and over 6,000 family and friends. A spectacular Olympic-style Opening Ceremony will kick-off the event at Sheffield United FC, with 15,000+ guests, with confirmed media support from BBC and ITV, as well as regional print/broadcast partners.
Special Olympics GB’s National Summer Games is the country’s largest multi-sports event for athletes with intellectual disabilities. It is held every 4 years and represents a huge opportunity to showcase the abilities of children and adults with intellectual disabilities, allowing them to compete at a national level, experience the personal achievement this brings, as well as improving their confidence, life opportunities, health and fitness, friendships and inclusion in society.
Our sponsors and partners are the lifeblood of the Games and can expect a wealth of unique marketing and CSR benefits to include:
- branding at Games sports venues and throughout the City (with a BBC and ITV media presence, as well as regional media)
- national & regional marketing and PR campaigns in the run up and during the event
- client hospitality and opportunity to attend the Opening Ceremony, sports and present medals
- employee volunteering and opportunities to meet our athletes and ambassadors.
There are various sponsor packages to suit budgets of companies of all sizes. To discuss how your company, staff, customers and clients can get involved, contact Bonnie Clayton on email@example.com

2017 Games Sponsors
All GB teams participation at European and World events are funded by fundraising and sponsorship only. We are currently seeking sponsors and supporters for all forthcoming international events.
In 2014, we have a GB team of 71 athletes and coaches participating at the Special Olympics European Games in Belgium. The cost to send a team to this event was £72k. This includes squad training weekends, travel and kit - once the team are at the games host country costs are covered. We are thrilled that the 2014 GB Team were supported by Eurostar as the travel partner.
The cost to send a team to an international event varies depending on where in the world the event is taking place and the number of athletes. Once an outline budget has been agreed our single goal is to ensure that the clubs who have athletes participating are not burdened with high levels of fundraising to support the costs. Therefore, we seek partnerships for items such as travel and kit - being the two highest costs to offset.
In 2015, we had a further GB team of 170 athletes and coaches who travelled to Los Angeles to participate at the Special Olympics World Summer Games. The budget to send the team to Los Angeles was estimated to be £500k.
