Chief Executive Officer

Karen has been involved with the Special Olympics Movement since 1992 when she joined as PA to the then Special Olympics Director General for Europe, Paul Anderson.

Karen continued to support Anderson when he took up the role as CEO to develop the Special Olympics programme in the British Isles (the charity was known then as Special Olympics UK) in 1994. At this time, they were the only two staff members but the team and the organisation soon began to grow and by 1998 the office team had expanded to five staff members.

In 1997, Karen was promoted to the role of National Administrator and over the course of the next ten years was appointed Company Secretary (1999), promoted to Operations Manager (2003) and in 2007, took up the post of Chief Operating Officer.

Over the next three years, Karen oversaw the implementation of the organisation’s first Strategic Plan focusing on the development of relationships between Special Olympics GB and its key stakeholders and aspiring to bring long term financial stability to the organisation.

In January 2009, Karen was honoured to accept the position of Chief Executive Officer.

Karen lives in Kent with her husband Matthew.
