Anniversary Games 2018

Special Olympics GB is delighted to announce it is staging a very special Anniversary Games, hosted by Special Olympics Scotland which will be held in Stirling, Scotland in August 2018.

The Anniversary Games will celebrate both Special Olympics GB's 40th birthday (SOGB was founded in 1978) and also the 50th birthday of the worldwide Special Olympics global movement (set up in 1968 by President JFK’s sister Eunice Kennedy Shriver).

The Special Olympics GB Anniversary Games will involve approximately 1,200 athletes and 400 coaches and officials.  As well as athletes from all GB Regions, a number of European countries will be invited to take part in the Games. All athletes and coaches will be accommodated on campus at the University of Stirling. An estimated 2,500 family members will attend these Games and access to all sports will be free to the public. 

All sports will be based at the University of Stirling - other than the golf competition - and will include:
Table Tennis

Plus a special ‘Play Unified’ event – activity of athletes with and without learning disability playing and competing together.

The Games will also include a Fan Zone, a Healthy Athletes’ Programme and a Family Zone housed in marquees in the University of Stirling.  There will be a Games Opening Ceremony and a Closing Ceremony.
