National Alpine Skiing 2020

Next year, Crans Montana in Switzerland will play host to the Special Olympics Great Britain 2020 National Alpine Skiing Competition.

Providing a spectacular back-drop to all the action, the beautiful resort will see athletes from across the UK, competing in three events - Slalom, Giant Slalom and Super G - at a variety of levels.

Athlete entry is now closed but we are still looking for Volunteers to help - both for skiers and non-skiers.

It's sure to be an amazing event and experience for everyone involved.  During the week you will be part of the unique Special Olympics community and witness the joy of seeing the athletes faces as they compete and the jubilation as they stand on the podium to receive their medals.  The Opening Ceremony is emotional as the Athletes parade proudly Region by Region and take their oath for the week "Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt". The week is rounded off with the Closing Ceremony celebrations which everyone takes part in. Add this to the sunshine, snow and mountains and you have the perfect recipe for an excellent week!

There are three main areas where we will need help:-

a) Race course as marshals and helpers - requirement - to be able to ski
b) With the timing equipment and divisioning software - requirement - good IT skills but don't need to be able to ski
c) With the Athletes - requirement - in the morning to help unload the skis off the bus for the athletes and at lunchtime in the restaurant. Not required to be able to ski as the restaurant we are using is at the top of the gondola which comes up from the centre of town. We may need these helpers at other times to carry out ad-hoc duties as and when required.
