Anthony had an extensive career in the private, public and voluntary sectors both locally and internationally. Since retiring from the private and public sectors, he is now concentrating on expanding his roles in the voluntary sector.
He studied at City University London where he graduated with an honours degree in Electrical Engineering. His early career started with Thorn Industries Ltd in various engineering and management positions. From 1984 to April 2005 he worked for Sony in numerous management and director positions and ultimately became a board member from 2001 to 2005. Anthony is now the owner and CEO of Abbott Consulting Wales Ltd, providing strategic leadership and interim management to various companies in UK and Europe.
Anthony has been involved with Special Olympics Wales since 2005, working as the National Executive Member and Treasurer. He has helped develop and expand competition programmes for sporting events, along with the management of finances and raising funds for various projects.
He joined Special Olympics GB as a National executive member and Deputy Head of Delegation in 2009. He now provides support to the SOGB Board for all sporting operations and supports our athletes at national and regional competitions.
“My experience at Board level in various companies provides me with the background to fully contribute to the Board of Special Olympics GB as a NEC (National Executive Council) representative. People with Learning Disabilities should be at the forefront of Social attitudes, all too often this is not so. I want to contribute to the challenge to keep pushing their needs towards the forefront.”
Outside of work Anthony enjoys scuba diving, golf and cycling. He is the Treasurer and Membership Secretary for his local BSAC diving club, organising outings to the UK South Coast, Malta and Egypt. In warm weather he is also quite a keen gardener!
