Brewood Christmas Lights switch on in the West Midlands will be performed by Special Olympics GB table tennis athlete, brilliant Bobby Dunbar.

Our very own 'Bobby Dazzler' will switch on the lights this Sunday (26th November).

This is the culmination of the most incredible year for Bobby.

Mum Maria takes up the story!

Maria says: "Bobby is 26 and was part of the lighting of the Special Olympics GB torch in Much Wenlock ahead of the National Games.

"Bobby was then waved off by the Mayor of Wolverhampton as he and his Special Olympics squad headed to Sheffield.

"Bobby won both Gold and Bronze medals playing Table Tennis at the National Games. We are so proud of him.

"Bobby and the Special Olympics table tennis team attend weekly coaching sessions at Woodfield Sports & Social Club.

"It is here volunteer coaches, including former England players, pass on their skills to our Special Olympics athletes.

"While in Sheffield, Bobby was delighted to receive congratulations on winning his gold medal from the England Football Manager, Gareth Southgate, who paid a visit to the Games.

"Bobby was so proud of his gold medal that he actually won playing doubles with his partner and SOGB board member Greg Sylvester.

"On his return, Bobby’s dad posted a picture of him on the group web page for our village ‘Brewood Matters’. The caption to the photo read, ‘Brewood has an Olympic medal winner for Table Tennis'.

"We were astonished that in just two days the post received almost 600 likes and congratulations all round.

"It was just after this time that we heard whispers from the Satellite Rotary Club that Bobby’s name had been put forward as the person to switch on the Christmas Lights in Brewood.

"A certificate was presented to Bobby at the Parish Council Offices on 28 September 2017.

"Then in the November edition of the ‘Village News’ it was confirmed that the Christmas Lights would be switched on by Bobby.

"Bobby is also an integral member of the Brewood and Penkridge Friendly Darts League and also an actor with the Seasons Theatre Group, who perform at The Prince of Wales Theatre Cannock.

"Bobby enjoys playing pool, football, wrestling, travel, attending gigs and socialising."

We think you are tremendous Bobby and your ability, smile, talent and personality are all priceless! Have a great day on Sunday!
