Great Britain Football Team have made the World Games Final!
Today was the final game of the group stages and the lads faced Australia. After getting off to winning start on Friday with a 4-0 win against Switzerland and getting a 0-0 draw against Germany on Saturday the lad were one game away from the final. After the pre match team talk the lads looked raring to go, and they were it took just 2 minuets for the opening goal. Steven Johnson took the ball on the edge of box with 2 Australian defenders hot on his heels and hit a thunderous strike from the edge of the box into the left hand side of the goal, no keeper would of saved that!
For the rest of the first half Great Britain were on top, the team were very disciplined from keeper straight through to the striker. Just before half time the Australian striker hit a powerful shot towards the bottom left hand corner of the goal but keeper Shaun McCulloch diving making a great 1 handed save keeping his team in front.
The second half started the same as the first with Great Britain on top, the team were keeping possession well. GB were putting some good passing moves together which was ending with some decent chances.
It was getting a little nervy towards the end with Australia going all out attack but the lads held there own and had nerves of steel to see the game out.
At Full time the crowd erupted with cheers for the team. The lads showed great respect to Australia and then rightfully celebrated, GB are in the final of the Special Olympics World Games!!
