Six Special Olymics GB athletes have attended the BBC Sports Personality Of The Year this weekend at the Liverpool Echo Arena.

Ted Heath (Head of North West Region for Special Olympics) together with athletes

Kiera Byland (Cycling), Kaley Heath (Swimmer), Katie Whittaker (Gymnast), Steven Law-Bate (Football), Daniel Gresty (Table Tennis) and Sean Daniels (Swimmer) all represented Special Olympics GB.

All the Special Olympics athletes got to meet some of the country’s top sports stars and had a fabulous experience.

Our Special Olympics athletes also got to walk the famous Sports Personality red carpet and then were invited to record a message of thanks for the contribution of volunteers in sport across the country.

Ted Heath commented: “For our athletes to attend this event on behalf of Special Olympics GB is magical.  It is recognition of the fact that they belong within society and the sporting community at the highest level.  This is a day they will never forget.  It will inspire them to even greater glories in life.”
