15th December 2017

Absolutely incredible news coming in from England's white rose county where Special Olympics GB ice skater Jenny Lee has been announced as the winner of the Yorkshire Young Achiever Sports Award 2017.

Previous winners have included Jamie Vardy, Lizzie Armistead, Jess Ennis, Alistair and Jonny Brownlee.

Mum Helena tells us: "We are so very proud of her and all she has achieved following her participation in the Special Olympics World Winter Games.

"We cannot thank Special Olympics GB enough for everything they have helped our daughter to achieve.

"The confidence that she has developed has enabled her to work.

"She is now employed by McDonalds and a local farm shop, where she works in their deli and food preparation areas.

"We are so proud of this more than anything. Enabling Jenny to be a productive young person and contribute to society is a fantastic achievement!"

We also cannot thank you enough, Helena. For nurturing and guiding Jenny to these heights.

For giving Jenny the opportunities to be a very special young lady and part of our Special Olympics family. Indeed, Jenny's skills are an asset to our whole community.

Jennifer is one of the most fabulous people you could ever meet. Talented, fun, personality and humility. Jenny is a wonderful addition to the Special Olympics family and we are sure this is just the start of a very long success story in her life.

The awards were shown on Calendar ITV and hosted by Christine Talbot and Duncan Wood. In the picture are Duncan and mum Helena - either side of victorious Jenny.
