Special Olympics Great Britain appoints new leader - Michelle Carney joins Special Olympics GB as Interim CEO

Special Olympics Great Britain announced today that Michelle Carney is joining the organisation as Interim CEO.

Michelle Carney brings a wealth of experience in the charity sector with a strong track record in driving growth.  

She has extensive experience in sport, from grassroots community sport to professional sport and international sport for development.

Murton Mann, Chair of Special Olympic GB said:  “Michelle has a broad spectrum of experience, having worked in the commercial, not for profit, charity and international development sectors.  She combines her breadth of experience with her passion to create opportunities and partnerships that are impactful and change lives. We are thrilled to have her join us.”

Michelle Carney said:  “I am looking forward to working with the Special Olympics Great Britain family and all our supporters to change and enhance the lives for all those living with an intellectual disability” and went on to say:  “I am truly honoured & delighted to join Special Olympics GB and the Special Olympics global movement, especially at this exciting and busy time with the upcoming Special Olympics GB Anniversary Games in Stirling in August and the World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi March 2019”.

Special Olympics would like to acknowledge the incredible support of partners, supporters and the Special Olympics family over the past few months, and to thank Andy Heffer for his leadership during this time.

Michelle will officially start Monday 30th July.
