Special Olympics Great Britain supports 10,000 children and adults with intellectual (learning) disabilities, through 140 community based sports clubs run by 4,000 volunteers. Special Olympics is the country’s only year-round programme of sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, providing opportunities for them to develop their physical skills and confidence, adopt a healthier lifestyle and become inclusive members of their community.
We have a range of programmes that need funding and are keen to speak to trusts and foundations that are interested in enabling people with intellectual disabilities to improve their lives. We need support from trusts and foundations to deliver locally through volunteer-led clubs based in local communities across Great Britain and to help run innovative programmes like Motor Activities Training Programme ®, which reaches people with multiple and profound intellectual disabilities and Young Athletes Programme® a play programme designed for ages 2-7.
