Special Olympics Great Britain partner Toyota (GB) has been recognised for its fantastic work in raising the profile of athletes across England, Scotland and Wales in the annual Laureus Sport For Good Index.

First published in 2021 by SportsPro and Laureus, the Sport For Good Index celebrates 30 campaigns from brands, across six industry sectors, which have had a meaningful societal impact through their work in sport.

Toyota celebrated a new national partnership with Special Olympics GB in May, having been a regional partner of Special Olympics Europe Eurasia since 2020 and globally for several years. The announcement was soon followed a campaign, which included work with LADbible on profiling a ‘day in the life of’ video with bocce athlete Michael Beynon and unveiling of a huge mural of tennis athlete Lily Mills in North London, near to the Emirates Stadium.

Toyota also brought together Special Olympics World Games gold medallists Kiera Byland and Niall Guite with Olympians Dame Laura Kenny and Matty Lee and Paralympians Jonny Peacock and Kadeena Cox for The Roundtable Champions discussion on what it takes to win gold.

To follow, Toyota worked with fellow Special Olympics GB partner Ocean Outdoor to create a first ever Team SOGB Fan Park at Westfield London. Alongside this, Toyota celebrated the achievements of Team SOGB athletes at Berlin 2023 by announcing their medal wins on Ocean Outdoor screens across the country.

Colin Dyer, Chief Executive of Special Olympics GB, said: “We’re thrilled to see Toyota recognised for its role in giving our athletes an even bigger platform than ever ahead of and during the summer’s Special Olympics World Games.

“We’re always looking at new ways to enhance the profile of our athletes and to showcase the transformational role that sport can play in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. By working with LADbible and our partners Ocean Outdoor, we have reached a new audience who have been able to learn about what our athletes can and will continue to achieve.

“We’re very grateful to everyone in the Toyota team for what they have achieved. Our national partnership is still in the early stages, so we are very excited about what else could be achieved through this relationship.”
