It is important to know key Safeguarding Contacts at Special Olympics GB so you can raise concerns and ask questions to the right people.  

Below is an explanation of key Safeguarding roles at Special Olympics GB:

Club/Region Safeguarding and Welfare Officer (SWO)

A nominated person acting on behalf of Special Olympics GB or network deliverer whose responsibility is to deal with athlete wellbeing/athlete protection/safeguarding matters at the Region and Club level. SWOs will liaise with Safeguarding staff at National Office and ensure they are kept informed of any and all safeguarding reports/concerns.

Ben Gillard – Safeguarding Lead

Responsible for supporting the organisation to implement Special Olympics GB’s Safeguarding Framework through supporting Athletes, Clubs, Regions, Safeguarding and Welfare Officers and the National Team in their understanding of safeguarding and individual roles and responsibilities each one has to ensure that SOGB has strong safeguarding culture.

Laura Baxter MBE - Strategic Director of Growth & Legacy  

Responsible for Organisational Compliance with Safeguarding Policies and Procedures and also ensuring there is the promotion of a positive culture of safeguarding across the organisation. In addition, Laura’s role is to ensure that the Safeguarding Lead is appropriately resourced to implement good safeguarding practices across the organisation.
