Special Olympics Great Britain has been named as a beneficiary of the 2023 ICAP Charity Day, which sees the firm’s team of brokers at its London headquarters raise substantial funds for charities.

Taking place at ICAP offices around the around the world, all revenues earned through trading tomorrow (Thursday 7 December) will be donated to its charity beneficiaries. Last year this raised £4.4 million globally, with more than £160 million raised since the Charity Day began in 1993.

The donation that will be made to Special Olympics GB will support the funding of the charity’s sporting competitions in 2024 in addition to its Motor Activity Training Programme (MATP) for athletes of all ages with complex needs. 

“The annual ICAP Charity Day is an incredible fundraising event, which has made a huge difference to hundreds of fantastic causes around the world,” said Colin Dyer, Chief Executive of Special Olympics GB.

“Giving children and adults with an intellectual disability the opportunity to participate and compete in sport can be transformational. Not only does it help them to live a healthy lifestyle but it can grow their confidence and skill sets that support their professional development.

“Additionally, our MATP sessions give a tailored sporting experience to more than 3,000 people with complex needs in England, Scotland and Wales. It’s a sporting programme that’s unique to the Special Olympics movement around the world and we couldn’t provide these opportunities without the fantastic support of ICAP and our partners.

Special Olympics GB is one of 15 charities supported by ICAP at its headquarters in London with more than 100 charities supported globally.

Special Olympics GB uses the power of the sport to help transform the lives of people with intellectual disabilities across England, Scotland and Wales. Across the countries, more than 6,600 children and adults currently registered at its 95 accredited clubs, which are supported by 3,800 registered volunteers.
