
Special Olympics GB is proud to announce that Motor Activity Training Programme (MATP) national Manager Angela Lydon and MATP coach, athlete and Special Olympics GB and Special Olympics International Board member, Kiera Byland BEM, have been appointed to the Special Olympics MATP Global Advisory Resource Committee.
In recognition of their unwavering commitment and expertise in championing inclusive sport for athletes with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Angela and Kiera will help guide, develop, and grow MATP as the signature Special Olympics sport for individuals requiring the highest levels of support. They join 10 other MATP leaders from across the globe in ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to experience the joy and empowerment of sport.
The appointments of Angela and Kiera to the MATP Global Advisory Resource Committee reflect the growing influence of Special Olympics GB on the global stage and the strength of our MATP programme.

In 2024 Special Olympics GB supported up to 10,000 children and young people across England, Scotland and Wales, with particular highlights including:
- 355 school staff attending MATP Introductory Training Sessions
- 105 trained as MATP Tutors to deliver training in their own settings
- Five schools awarded the new MATP Quality Mark (three Gold, one Silver, one Bronze)
Special Olympics GB recently announced 12 more dates for FREE MATP Introductory Workshop. Delivered online, these sessions support delivery of inclusive, athlete-centred sport for individuals with PMLD or complex needs.
