Special Olympics GB athletes from across the country have an opportunity to try their hand at Indoor Bowls this April ahead of the prestigious Learning Disability Indoor Bowls International Series in York.

Learning Disabilities Indoor Bowls is staging a taster session at the York & District Indoor Bowls Club from 2pm to 6pm on Tuesday 25 April. Here, all athletes have the opportunity to try the sport before competition in the International Series for the Munro Cup gets underway.

Learning disability bowls teams from England, Scotland and Wales, including several Special Olympics athletes, will compete for the third Munro Cup on 26 and 27 April, with athletes and families welcome to spectate across the days of competition.

England, who host the event for the first time this year, won the inaugural Munro Cup in Falkirk in 2019, with Scotland taking the honours last year in Cardiff.

Janice Gower, Event Manager, said: “We are delighted the series is going from strength to strength and that York and District Indoor Bowls Club will provide a superb stage for these athletes.

“At Learning Disability Indoor Bowls, we are fortunate to have a great team of dedicated volunteers who support the event and the athletes.

“This year we have a new Head Official in Colin Stuart, who is a well-known International Technical Officer, with new Support Manager Ross Crawford on board to support our amazing volunteers. With Operations Manager Richard Maddieson and Venue Manager Karen Coutts at the event, we have a team that can lead indoor bowls for people with learning disabilities to great heights.”

Learning Disability Indoor Bowls is also seeking further volunteers who may be able to support. Please get in touch with Richard Maddieson Operations Manager on rmaddieson@gmail.com for further information.
