Special Olympics GB was proud to be strongly represented at the recent Special Olympics Europe Eurasia Sports Conference in Cyprus ‘Between The Games’, which brought together national programme staff and athletes from more than 40 countries.
Used as a platform to share knowledge, celebrate progress, and shape the future of the movement, the event was co-hosted by athlete, coach and Board member for both Special Olympics GB and Special Olympics International, Kiera Byland BEM.
However, beyond the conference, the event shone a light on how Special Olympics GB athletes and National Office staff play a vital part in shaping the movement through the following roles:
- Kiera Byland BEM, Chair of the Special Olympics Global Congress, member of the Special Olympics International Board of Directors, MATP Global Resource Advisory Committee
- Niall Guite, Special Olympics Europe Eurasia Regional Athlete Leadership Committee
- Laura Baxter MBE, Special Olympics Europe Eurasia Leadership Committee
- Laura Davies, Special Olympics Europe Eurasia Sports Committee
- Angela Lydon, MATP Global Resources Advisory Committee
“Involvement in the various international committees and groups ensures that the views of our athletes and network, is influencing the future of the Special Olympics movement and its events around the world,” said Laura Baxter MBE, Chief Executive of Special Olympics GB.
“We’re very proud to have this group of five playing their part on the international stage, and we continue to offer support to all of our athletes, volunteers and staff who are passionate about leadership and helping to shape our organisation for the future.”
