“The National Summer Games is going to create memories for years to come, and the merchandise gives you something to remember it by,” said Athlete Leader Daniel Mills, who won gold, silver and bronze medals representing Special Olympics Stafford in athletics at the National Summer Games multi-sport event in Birmingham.
“As my first ever Special Olympics GB National Summer Games, I had a fantastic time competing in such a major event, where I was able to make friends and connect with other athletes from across the country. However, it was also amazing to be part of the team selling the merchandise at the Alexander Stadium.”
Daniel was one of eight athletes who took part in the National Summer Games Unified Merchandise Team, alongside long-standing Special Olympics GB corporate partners Coca-Cola Europacific Partners.
Ahead of the multi-sport event, the athletes were joined by Coca-Cola Europacific Partners staff for a planning session to develop how the merchandise would be sold on-site at Alexander Stadium and Wyndley Leisure Centre, whilst also participating in photography and video shoots to promote the range of products.
Holly Firmin, Senior Community Partnerships Manager at Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, said: “It’s incredibly rewarding for our staff to work alongside Special Olympics GB athletes through Unified Business projects. This is the seventh project that we have delivered, and it was fantastic to theme it around the first National Summer Games since 2017.
“Within our business, we have a commitment to support 500,000 people who are facing barriers to the workplace, helping them develop the skills that support their journey towards employment. Unified Business forms part of that commitment, and we loved seeing the development of all of the athletes who have participated in these programmes.”
